Blogapella

Here for my 179th post, I would like to show my appreciation for a'capella music.
Now, I'm not talking about ONE chick that's trying to sing a Paramore song, nor am I referring to groups singing things like Stand By Me.
Usually I try to find a more modern song sung by a group. (preferably not on stage)
There are a few exceptions though.

Yes, a lot of times its pretty goofy sounding.
But good a'capella truly is...well...good.
(Just as bad a'capella is horrid.)
Rarely is there a middle ground, with the exception of comedic a'capella. (Run To The Hills by It's Super Effective, WHAT?)
Playing instruments truly takes a lot of skill, but I feel that orchestrating an a'capella piece takes a lot of coordination, since there are so many parts and voices involved.

My personal favorite would be the Bad Romance cover by the following group of gentlemen.

This newly discovered piece is another favorite.
(Along with a favorite song in general.)
Notice how he sounds almost EXACTLY like Sufjan.

Don't hate me for this one:

Despite the stupid bow on the one girl's head, and the even more stupid song selection, these girls really know how to pull it together.

*Disclaimer; I by no means support Justin Beiber or his fans.

Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah

This one took a lot of searching, as there were a lot of pretty bad covers of this song.

This one is pretty impressive also. Even though usually I don't go for male vocals sung by females

This was a toss-up between two:

and

This was a hard one to find a good version of.
Let me know if you find one that you feel is more impressive.
I liked this one.

If anyone can find an a'capella cover of a Flogging Molly song (that isn't a bunch of kids singing on cellphone quality in pirate costumes and stomping to the beat.), please send it to me.
(Though, the previously mentioned one was pretty cute.)

The Sound of Settling

Apparently my last post was the big 170.

So here is the even bigger 171! There is no area code in the United States that is 171.

I've been on this kick lately, where I feel like my life is very meaningless. This is something I have been struggling with a lot recently. I feel like my failures greatly out-weigh my accomplishments, and frankly, this is not the way I want to live. So for the past few weeks I have been trying to compile a few different ideas as to what I want to do.

Long story short, I feel the need to do something life changing. The likely hood of this happening is little to none.

The best option seems to be joining the military. After doing quite a bit of research I decided on the Army. The Marines were my first choice, but since I have so many tattoos I cannot join. But that is okay, I have no regrets.

I have been looking into the Army, trying to decided when I would go, find what jobs I would do and so on. I was 75% sure I would be joining. The only thing that was holding me back was the fact that I would have to leave Van, and I really don't like the idea of that. I still sit and wait for a sign though, to show me what I should or shouldn't do.

Strangely enough, though, I think I kind of found it.

This morning, at about 6 AM, I had a dream.

Van and I were in a plane, waiting for it to take off. Everyone was seated, thick fog clouded the surrounding area. The pilot spoke over the loudspeaker, telling us that we were ready for take off. The engines started, the plane began to move forward, steadily gaining speed. It began to lift, as if slowly peeling gravity off of it in thick layers. Though, just as it started to leave the ground, it would slam back down, unable to break free from the runway. The captain came over the loudspeaker again, apologizing. He tried to lift the plane off again, but the same thing happened. We were nearing the end of the run-way. Finally, on the third try, the plane lifted. It accelerated upward, passing through the fog. It increased in altitude, then finally leveled out as it reached it's peak in the sky. Only then did it start to waver side to side. The plane shook violently as it began it's downward spiral. I then got a view of the front of the plane, as if a camera were stuck on the nose of it, pointing downward at the on-coming ocean.

All I really remember at this point, was the plane's rapid decent to the ground and the impact as it hit the ocean. I do not know how I got out of the plane, I do not know how I got my seat belt off. The next thing I remember is being swept away underwater, disoriented and hazy, my vision tunneling and my limbs weighing me down. Suddenly, I felt a hand on the back of my shirt-collar and heard Van's voice in my head saying "I gotcha...", then suddenly being pulled quickly upward. It was at this point that I woke up.

I feel like this dream means something, but I'm really not sure what. Its kind of making me lean more toward not joining the Army for some reason. We will see.

Now that I have gotten that out of my system, I would like to share something with you.

Archer Farms S'mores trail mix. It is strangely delicious and most likely very unhealthy.

BUT it tastes JUST like Dairy Queen's Pecan Mudslide (minus the caramel, plus graham cracker bits). I am strongly considering throwing some on top of ice cream. Delicious delicious...
I got it at Target, perhaps it can be purchased other places too. I then snacked on that and a bag of free popcorn while watching Kick Ass.

And as for you who are curious about Kick Ass, I give it a 6.8/10. Think a more comedic version of Watchmen, but with kids in it instead of adults. Also an hour shorter and no blue penis.

I Pose A Theory.

Today I had a horrifying experience.
As a Pagan and an ex-vegan, I still feel the need to treat nature well and with respect, regardless of the situation, but unfortunately work today seemed to focus mainly on the demise of small animals.
Working in a bakery, it is only natural to have mice show up now and again. To me, I figure as long as they aren't getting into the food and making a mess, it should be okay. Unfortunately, the entire reason mice go to places in the first place is so that they can get into the food and consequently, make a mess. Therefor the mice had to go. The proper way to handle this kind of situation would have been to order enclosed traps and relocate the mice to a nearby field, which we have plenty of. I do understand that there are 1. too many mice, and 2. not enough time to do this. So, in the end this means that they must be killed. As much as I don't like the idea of this, it is understood. Personally, I have no problem disposing of a dead mouse. To be honest, I am a little bit afraid of the living ones since I got bit by one as a kid. Though a dead one doesn't bother me. Since this is the case, I was elected head of Mouse Disposal Crew. Actually, I was the only member of mouse disposal crew, due to the fact that we have other things to do other than play with dead mice, and also that they had to be quickly removed since they were decaying and the whole place smelled horribly of dead rodent. Sad to say, I can identify the smell of dead rodent very well.
Moving right along.
As I go to dispose of what I thought would be one or two dead mice in snap traps, I find that my employers have decided to use the least humane form of trap possible: a glue trap. And little did I know that there were not one or two mice, but seven. Two of which were still a alive and stuck in the little gooey trays.
As previously mentioned, it was a horrifying experience to see the small creature staring up at me with its shining, beaded eyes, with it's nose and feet stuck in a thick layer of gel. It immediately began squirming and tugging in fear as I approached. Feeling there was no kind of polite way to dispose of it, I placed a paper towel over the entire tray, covering both the living mouse and the couple dead ones that lay stuck next to it. At this point I was unsure of what to do. Do I put it in the plastic bag and let it suffocate slowly? Do I quickly end it's life by stepping on it? I felt that the second would have been the nicer thing to do, but on the other hand who am I to play God and take a life? it is not my choice when something should die. So instead I tied it into the plastic bag and tossed it into the dumpster. Perhaps the poor creature will free itself from the trap and make its way into a safe dumpster haven. As unlikely as this is, I can hope. The only thing worse than the one still wriggling, was the small mouse that had to have only been a few days old. No larger than my thumb he stood stuck in the glue, ribs fluctuating with each panicked breath as my hand drew closer to pick up the tray. The saddest part of the whole experience was the fact that this small one began squeaking in terror, trying to escape. This was not something I would like to have to do again, although I do know that there is another glue trap in the back room.
Scary that this all happened by 7:00 am.
As the day progressed we had several, and by several I mean anywhere between 5 and 8 people woth arms bigger around than my head, come in to install our new proof box. How exciting. Lucky for me, my space was taken over and I had to relocate to a different table right in the way of every person that walked by with a huge piece of the metal box. Please note my sarcasm. We usually have seven or so people working at the same time in our bake shop, occasionally a dishwasher or another employee from a different part of the building will come in. Today we ended up with a total of 15 people in the room at once. Mind you, this bakeshop is not very large.
One of my co-workers then said "In a perfect world, we would be working at different times." Meaning the bakers and the men that were installing the proof box.
This then got me thinking "What is a perfect world?"
I pondered this thought for quite a while as I put danishes and cinnamon rolls on a tray.
I then finally come to the conclusion that we already live in a perfect world, everything is perfect as it is. This theory is still in the works, considering that I haven't had anyone to discuss this yet, but so far I can not think of a reason why this world is not perfect. Yes, I understand that each individual person is not perfect, but people as a whole are. But then you must break that down. Are only half of the people perfect? No, because no one is perfect. And if no one is perfect, then there is nothing above imperfect. We know nothing greater than imperfection. And if there is nothing greater than imperfection, then imperfection is indeed perfection. If there were anything that was indeed 100% perfect, that would then make something else obsolete. And obsoletion is imperfection. Imperfection is necessary for perfection. Again, I am still testing this theory and I welcome any criticisms and will answer or reply to them in later posts.

You Can Call Me The Nanerpus

Career fair today. As usual I would have rather visited the zoo while the pandas were on the loose. (And to any of you that think it would be okay for pandas to be on the loose, just go talk to the man in China that got mauled by one.) But I digress. Career fair is always full of hundreds of people and companies that pounce on you like a starving leopard at a slow wounded animal. Not only do they pounce, but they shove handfuls of their paraphernalia at you so you remember them. Now really, I would like to know what some of this stuff is. They've given me a few strange contraptions. (See photo) I asked one man if he had any openings for baking and pastry students and he says "No! But we have caribeaners!" then shoves a caribeaner at me. I guess he knows I have been mountain climbing in my spare time?
But see, I get really paranoid around people like that. I seem to have a problem with people approaching me and trying to sell me things in public, I get a little bit scared. So I really don't like things like career fairs. I think it may be because I was chased by a clown when i was a kid and they were trying to give me free hamburger tickets. Who knows. Anyway. Here is some shit about me,

1. I live in Hyde Park New York and I feel more at home here than I ever did in Philly. I love this place and the people I have met.

2. I have really irrational fears such as lint, poop, lugies, and sea otters. Please don't ask, and please don't joke around about the first 3, I will vomit on you.

3. I am a gypsy. I tell fortunes, I can read tarot cards like they're the dollar menu, Ill pick up anything i find on the floor and if you leave your food out, Ill jack it. I will not shrink you.

4. I honestly have people looking for me trying to kill me. I keep low profile in public now or dress opposite of how I am expected to. This isn't a paranoia, it is a fact. I'm not going to get into why, but there are people all over the world looking for me, they just don't know where to find me yet.

5. I believe in quantum physics, chi, and magick. It has all proven to be true so far, for me at least. Yeah, I know its a little bit sketchy sounding, but to each his own, yeah?

6. Recently I learned that my eyes turn yellow. It's really very scary, to be honest. My pupils also pulse. We figured that it's because I really don't eat enough. or something

7. I want to be a SuicideGirl. SO BADLY. I actually got accepted to be one. Doesn't look like its actually going to happen though, as much as I would really, really like it to.

8. Many people think I am a fairy. I don't deny it. Must be all the glitter, dancing, bright colors, and sugar.

9. I have never been to White Castle and I don't really understand why it's such a huge deal?

10. I am very proud of myself for knowing all the words to Bring The Pain by Method Man. Makes me feel like I've got a little bit of cred.

11. I'm really really sad that Michelle is leaving so soon and I really don't know what I'm going to do with myself or who I'm going to go to, screaming like a lunatic because: the Misfits are going to be in town, I broke my arm, I found SunnyD on sale, I just beat a new level of Zombies Ate My Neighbors, etc.

12. I love video games. I could play Zombies Ate My Neighbors all day, and sometimes I do. I will always be more a fan of Sega Genesis and TurboGrafix 16. Don't get my wrong, I dig Soul Caliber 4, but still...Zombies At My Neighbors will always be my favorite.

13. This is my favorite number. It is my birthday, it is the death card. It is fear and it is change.

14. If we ever go shopping together, don't expect me to buy anything normal. Last trip included SunnyD, 2 cans of shaving cream, a huge bag of straws, and watercolor paints.

15. I can eat a lot of food and I have really unusual cravings. So, someday I'm going to get pregnant and smoke a ton of pot then enter a WingBowl and win. Not really, but it is an idea.

16. if we have hung out enough I probably know things about you that you don't even know. I also can identify the way you smell and how you walk. I've also memorized your facial expressions and can probably imitate you flawlessly. I can't imitate the sound of your voice, but I can imitate your ton and delivery.

17. If it involves zombies or vampires, I probably love it. Old school horror is pretty much my favorite thing ever.

18. A lot of people seem to be afraid of me. They have good reason, but not really. I may look like I;m kind of scary, but I'm really not. People tend to turn and look when I enter a room. I can understand why, its just strange.

19. I am teaching myself to play guitar, I'm not very good, but I can play most of my favorite songs, so I'm okay with that. My goal is to learn how to play Turn Soonest To The Sea.

20. This is taking a lot longer than I thought it would. My laundry is almost done. I hadn't done laundry since before Christmas break. Grody to the max. But I still can't believe its only 5:20. I really thought it was like... 8 PM or something.

21. I have had this looming feeling that I will be dying sometime this year. After I get back from extern. The fact that 2 other people have confirmed that they have had the same feeling about me makes me a little bit nervous. I am currently just focusing on now and I also know that I can survive anything between now and then. I also found my church where the funeral will be. Call me morbid, but at least I'm giving out mix CDs as party favors when I die.

22. When I check my laundry, I just look for the dryer with the brightest colors swirling in it. That's how I know it's mine. Well, either that or the most black. I almost stole a girl's laundry today by accident because it was brightly colored. Oops.

23. I haven't eaten a meal in over a week. Just little tidbits of whatever I find. Perhaps I will find something tasty tonight.

24. I wish I was better at glowstringing. I'm not very good with my left hand so I keep hitting myself in the face.

25. I really love ska music sometimes, its like....the band geeks and the drama kids got together in a garage and said "lets make a band!" And its awesome.

A bit about me, I guess. Not as if anyone will be reading this. haha.

I really dont even think anyone knows that I have this.
Oh wait. Of course they don't. I havent told anyone. Oh well!
Maybe I will.
So, if any stranger just so happens to stumble upon this, you can now know who I am, slightly.

I am nobody and I do not exist.
If you know me, you will beg to differ. But you don't know me as well as I do, which is interesting, considering that I hardly know myself. That is the way I intened to keep it. At least for you. If you truly care to find out about me and to see me as something more than a figment of your imagination, then it is entirely up to you and I will not aid you on your journey and you will be completely and entirely alone, just as I was as I tried to find myself as more than a figment. Recently I had everything I believed about myself turned upside down and shaken out of me. I am currently standing on a large stepping stone in a creek. The stone is cracked and very slippery. But if you care to know, I do have a few things about me that I am willing to share without you having to ask. Whether you find them useful or not is up to you. Though remember that nothing is not useful, its simply a matter of how you use it. For starters, I love questions. I aboslutely love them. I adore them. Questions. Questions of all sorts. All shapes and sizes and of any matter of importance. I love asking questions. I love answering questions. I love knowing why people ask them and why they answer them in the way that they do. I like to know why people do things, but I do not like when people ask me why I do or questions my actions. I like to think. I am a thinker. I like thinking and I like words. I'm good with words and letters. "I think therefore I am". Even though I like to think, I do not always like to talk about the different thoughts I have. I don't like surprises, but I like to surprise. I don't like being scared but I enjoy scaring. You can catch me jumping out of bushes at small children on halloween. Then I steal the candy they dropped. If I'm lucky enough I can get a whole bag. That leads to perhaps the second most important thing about me. Candy. There are very few things I wouldn't do for a piece of candy. Good candy. I like candy. I like sugar. I like maple syrup. I like honey. Anything sweet. I love sweets. This may be a downfall. I give a new meaning to the lyrics "You are my sweetest downfall" I have taken shots of maple syrup and eaten honey with a spoon. I run on sweet things. I also crave the most unusual food sometimes. Just today I was craving oreo cookies, raw broccoli, baked potatoes, and KFC gravy. At least half of the time the food I crave is actually food I do not like. I am known for eating food I don't like simply because its there. I once ate nearly a whole pan of brownies. I hate brownies. Even though I am a baker. I am currently going to school at the Culinary Institute of American for a degree in Baking and Pastry Arts Management. It is located in New York. My life is confusing right now when it comes to academics. I don't consider myself to be an academic or intelligent person. This is part of my stepping stone. My original intention was to go to The New School Of Art in New York City for some sort of art degree. Midway through the application process I had a mental breakdown and I haven't done art since, with the exception of one painting. I do not intend to ever do art again. That is all I wish to share with you up front. If you are interested in knowing more, I'm sure there is a rumor or two out there going on about me that you can believe. If you wish to find me, I will be where ever I shouldn't be, doing something I shouldn't do.
